Oyo confirms readiness to host Falconets vs Senegal U-20 WC qualifier

Oyo State is once again stepping into the continental football spotlight as it prepares to host Nigeria’s Falconets in a crucial 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying clash against Senegal’s Lionesses of Teranga.

In a statement issued and made available to the media in Ibadan on Monday, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke, said the highly anticipated encounter is scheduled for Saturday, 7 February 2026.

She stated that the choice of Oyo State as host follows the successful hosting of Nigeria’s Falconets against Rwanda at the same venue last year, noting that the match further reinforces the state’s growing reputation as a hub for international sporting events.

Recalling the emphatic victory over Rwanda, which showcased Oyo State’s world-class sporting facilities and organisational capacity, the Commissioner expressed confidence that the Falconets would once again rise to the occasion.

“The Lekan Salami Stadium has continued to serve as a fortress for our national teams, and we are confident the Falconets will make the nation proud,” she said.

Honourable Adegoke assured football fans, stakeholders and the international football community of adequate security, effective logistics and a memorable matchday experience, adding that the Falconets are expected to arrive in Ibadan on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, ahead of the fixture.

She therefore called on football lovers across the state to turn out en masse to support the Falconets as they take another decisive step towards qualifying for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
