Osun guber: NSCDC deploys 10,000 personnel, charges officers on neutrality

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, has deployed 10,000 personnel for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, charging its officers to remain apolitical, neutral and professional throughout the electoral process.

The state Commandant of the NSCDC, Igbalawole Sotiyo, gave the charge during a strategic meeting with area commanders, divisional officers and tactical commanders at the command headquarters in Osogbo.

In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, ASCI Kehinde Adeleke, Sotiyo disclosed that the personnel deployed for the election would be led by the Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi.

He said the credibility of the corps and public confidence in its personnel would depend largely on their conduct before, during and after the election, warning officers against actions capable of undermining the integrity of the Corps or compromising the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

“I urge you not to put the name of the corps into disrepute. Be apolitical, maintain neutrality and respect fundamental human rights. Discharge your duties strictly in line with the Corps’ Standard Operating Procedures and other extant laws guiding election security operations,” he said.

The commandant directed area commanders to ensure that personnel under their supervision remained disciplined, professional and responsive to the security needs of the people.

He described the NSCDC as a professional and non-partisan security agency responsible for protecting lives and property, critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as supporting the maintenance of peace and public order.

Sotiyo assured residents that the NSCDC would work with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure a peaceful, secure and credible electoral process.
