Osun LG crisis: ALGON demands CBN controller’s removal over alleged bias

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun State has formally requested the immediate transfer of the State’s Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Controller. They accuse her of favoring reinstated APC local council officials amid the ongoing local government administration crisis.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday, ALGON chairman Hon. Sarafadeen Awotunde claimed the CBN branch issued account-opening forms to what he called “impostor” APC chairmen. He described these individuals as illegitimate following a disputed court judgment.
Awotunde recounted visiting the CBN premises twice—on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning—hoping to speak with the Controller. On both occasions, they were rebuffed, even alleging that a security officer trampled on the court papers they had presented, while barring their entry to the premises.
He condemned the CBN’s actions as unlawful, asserting: “What is happening in Osun is illegal. The CBN should not embarrass itself by siding with impostors. If the Controller cannot remain impartial, she must be transferred.”
Awotunde emphasised that elected ALGON officials seek neither conflict nor anarchy, but they cannot stand by silently. “Enough is enough,” he said, attributing the situation to possible directives from Abuja, which he claimed President Bola Tinubu would oppose if informed.
The ALGON chairman urged President Tinubu to intervene, instructing the Accountant-General and Ministry of Finance to uphold legitimate local government authority and prevent further “artificial anarchy” in Osun State.
