The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of six people and many others injured in the clash between the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) over Local Government control.
The police, in a video made by its Public Relations Officer, CSP Yemisi Opalola, condemned the violence, expressing deepest sympathy with the families of the victims and those who lost property.
Opalola, who confirmed the arrival of the mobile policemen deployed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, warned those responsible for the violence to desist from their actions.
She said, “The events of yesterday left six people dead and many others hospitalized. We are not happy with what happened yesterday, and various groups have been called for meetings. We have held a series of meetings by the Commissioner of Police to ensure that this does not happen again.
“We express deepest sympathy with those affected, whether they lost their lives or property. The CP assures thorough investigation and promises that the perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law.
“Citizens are urged to remain calm and patient as the police work to restore peace. Those causing this trouble should desist from this act. This state is known for peace.
“We won’t allow anyone to disrupt the peace of our state. The IGP has deployed mobile policemen from outside the state to Osun, and they arrived last night.
“The command will leave no stone unturned to achieve peace. Let us give peace a chance.”
