The Osun State Police Command has dismissed a viral artificial intelligence-generated video circulating on social media alleging that bandits are heading to Ilesa, describing it as false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to cause fear, panic, incitement, and a breach of public peace.
In a statement signed by the police public relations officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the command warned the public against spreading unverified content, especially those generated with AI technology.
The command condemned the rising cases of false information and alarms, and enjoined members of the public to avoid generating AI animations, videos, or images, as well as posting or forwarding unverified information capable of causing panic in the state.
Ojelabi stated that the commissioner of police, Ibrahim Gotan, has deployed both overt and covert police personnel to the Ilesa axis and other parts of the state to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
He urged residents to report suspicious movements to the nearest police station or via the emergency phone lines: 08039537995 or 08123823981.
The command reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property of all residents at all times, noting that Osun State remains relatively peaceful.
