Osun Speaker faces recall for alleged threat to monarch
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Osun State, Hon. Adewale Adebayo, says the process to recall the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has officially begun following allegations of threats to the life of the Alasi of Asi, Oba Isaac Oyewale.
Oba Oyewale reportedly fled his palace after Egbedun, who represents the Odo-Otin State Constituency, allegedly threatened and vowed to assault him. Although the Speaker later apologised to his supporters over the incident, the situation has sparked widespread backlash.
In a statement on Monday, Adebayo disclosed that constituents have finalised arrangements to submit a formal notification to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding Egbedun’s recall.
“We have prepared a notification letter to be submitted to INEC by Monday,” he said. “We lost confidence in Egbedun’s representation long ago, but the recent threat to our hometown monarch was the final straw.”
He also accused the Speaker of obstructing police operations, sharing videos on social media which allegedly show Egbedun preventing the arrest of suspected fraudsters. Adebayo further claimed that the Speaker had led security personnel to assault a court bailiff and a lawyer.
According to the APM chairman, Egbedun’s actions have brought embarrassment to the constituency, and residents believe more credible individuals are available to offer quality representation in the House of Assembly.
“We are beginning the process today, August 4, 2025. The people of Odo-Otin are ready to recall him through all legal means,” Adebayo stated.
He concluded that if a lawmaker could threaten a respected traditional ruler from his own town, then the safety of ordinary citizens in the constituency is under serious threat.
