Osun takes FG to Supreme Court over withheld LG funds

The Osun State Government has dragged the Federal Government before the Supreme Court over the alleged seizure of local government allocations for February, March, and April 2025.
The legal action stems from a protracted political battle between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) over control of the local councils.
According to state officials, the federal authorities have withheld the funds without explanation, while allocation for May remains undecided.
In a suit filed on April 23, 2025, and marked SC/CV/379/2025, the Attorney General of Osun State, represented by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Musibau Adetunbi, named the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, as the sole defendant.
Osun is seeking a Supreme Court order compelling the Federal Government to release the withheld funds.
The state also wants the court to issue a permanent injunction restraining the federal authorities from further suspending or seizing allocations meant for its local government councils.
