Oyebanji dissolves boards, sacks political appointees ahead of second term

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has ordered the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions and parastatals across the state, alongside the termination of appointments of several political aides.

The affected appointees include special assistants, senior special assistants and technical assistants, according to a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Sunday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode.

Oyebode said the decision was taken as the administration gradually winds down its first term ahead of Oyebanji’s inauguration for a second term on October 16, 2026.

However, the dissolution does not affect statutory bodies including the State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission.

The governing councils of Ekiti State-owned tertiary institutions will also remain in place, following an earlier directive by the governor.

Oyebode added that although the boards of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission had been dissolved, their respective chairmen would continue in office.

The statement further disclosed that directors-general and technical advisers to the governor were exempted from the termination of appointments.

Oyebanji thanked the affected appointees for their contributions to his administration and the state, wishing them success in their future endeavours.
