Oyebanji urges Ekiti varsities to maintain stable academic calendars

By Boye Oyeyemi –
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has urged state-owned universities to maintain a stable and predictable academic calendar to improve educational quality and restore public confidence in the tertiary system.
He gave the charge on Tuesday while receiving the senior management of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), led by the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andrew Babatunde Omojola, at his office in Ado-Ekiti.
Governor Oyebanji warned that frequent disruption of academic activities undermines students’ learning and places unnecessary burdens on parents and guardians.
He noted that a stable calendar would enhance academic excellence, attract prospective students, researchers, and development partners, adding that education remains central to his administration’s development agenda.
The governor urged university management, staff, union leaders, and governing councils to strengthen dialogue and adopt proactive conflict-resolution strategies to prevent avoidable strikes and prolonged closures.
He commended BOUESTI’s rising profile as one of the fastest-growing state-owned universities, attributing its success to its stable academic calendar, which has made it appealing to students and parents alike.
Congratulating Prof. Omojola on his appointment as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor, Governor Oyebanji expressed confidence in his ability to consolidate achievements and sustain the university’s academic standards.
Prof. Omojola, in his remarks, thanked the governor for the appointment and outlined his vision to rank BOUESTI among the top ten universities in Nigeria, the top 100 in Africa, and the top 1,000 globally through academic excellence, research innovation, and institutional stability.
