A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has commended President Bola Tinubu for the support given to the military, which has enabled recent advancements against terrorism. He also praised the administration’s strategy targeting terrorist financiers, which is yielding positive results.
Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, made these remarks on Sunday in Osogbo. He noted that the achievements recorded in recent weeks demonstrate that the military has taken bold steps to tackle insurgency.
According to him, the handling of Bello Turji, a notorious terrorist, shows the military’s capacity to decisively deal with terrorists.
He applauded President Tinubu’s recent statement that his administration has been targeting the financial networks of terrorist groups in the country, describing it as a significant and courageous move towards eradicating violent crimes.
Referring to the president’s speech at the opening of the 2025 National Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Financing of Terrorism and Proliferation (AML/CFT/CPF) Summit in Abuja, Oyintiloye commended the conviction of more than 100 terrorist financiers in the last two years, calling it a laudable achievement in the fight against terrorism.
He urged the president to remain steadfast in his efforts against terrorism and its financiers, adding that many previously troubled regions are now experiencing relative peace.
Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), also commended the military and other security agencies for their bravery in combating terrorist groups and bandits in the country.
He appreciated their efforts to improve the security situation, which has significantly progressed in recent times.
“I want to commend the president for his efforts at addressing insecurity in the country. His strategy of crippling the financial networks of terrorist groups has brought relative peace to many troubled states.
“I also commend the military, the National Security Adviser, and other security agencies for restoring Nigerians’ confidence in the country’s security framework,” he said.
However, Oyintiloye urged security agencies not to relent until all criminals causing hardship for Nigerians are completely eradicated.
“The military must adopt a more proactive approach to dealing with terrorists and stop these criminals in their early stages before they assume larger-than-life postures. Turji nearly carved a territory for himself until the military reduced him to nothing,” Oyintiloye added.
