Oyintiloye seeks Tinubu’s intervention over worsening power supply
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has expressed concern over the declining electricity supply in Nigeria, describing it as a setback to ongoing power sector reforms.
Speaking in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye noted that despite repeated assurances and reforms, the situation continues to deteriorate, leaving Nigerians facing increasing hardship.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene, stressing that poor electricity supply has affected small-scale business owners, large industrial players and others who rely on power for their activities.
The former lawmaker stated that the lack of electricity for domestic use has worsened the effects of harsh weather conditions across the country, particularly as it coincides with a period of intense heatwave, making life unbearable for many Nigerians.
Oyintiloye urged the resident to constitute a panel to investigate the root causes of recurring national grid collapses and persistent poor power supply, despite significant government investment in the sector.
“It is a terrible situation across Nigeria with persistent poor power supply. Many small-scale businesses and large industrial players are affected, while most homes cannot boast of even three hours of electricity supply daily for domestic use,” he said.
Oyintiloye also appealed to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to take decisive action, noting that the poor power supply situation has already triggered a series of peaceful protests across the country and, if not promptly addressed, could escalate.
While commending President Tinubu for reforms in other sectors, he emphasised the need for a thorough investigation into the power sector’s poor performance.
