The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on security agencies to investigate the attack on the residence of former Deputy Governor Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which occurred on Saturday.
The appeal was made in a statement signed by APC’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare.
Western Post reported that at least 25 PDP members were injured and several properties destroyed by suspected political thugs during Saturday’s local government congresses organized by the faction loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Reacting to the attack, APC tasked the police and Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate and apprehend the culprits and their sponsors, while describing the attackers as “vicious hoodlums” mobilized to disrupt the congress and damage properties of party members loyal to the Wike faction.
“While some sponsored thugs were moving around the congress venues to disrupt the exercise, an army of hoodlums attacked the Ibadan home of a party chieftain, destroying vehicles and properties worth billions of naira and injuring men and women loyal to the Wike faction,” the statement read.
The APC further warned that the development must be investigated and unraveled to unmask the attackers and their sponsors, stressing that the state cannot afford to return to an era of full-scale political violence.
