Oyo APC pledges free, fair, credible direct primaries ahead of 2027 elections

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has assured aspirants and party members that it will conduct free, fair and credible direct primaries to select candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The State Chairman, Moses Alake Adeyemo, gave the assurance on Monday while receiving members of the party’s screening and appeal committees at the APC secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

Adeyemo explained that while the party had initially explored the possibility of consensus arrangements among aspirants, emerging realities in some constituencies, including the governorship race, may necessitate direct primaries.

He added that the party remains committed to ensuring transparency in the selection process, stressing that all registered members would participate either through affirmation in consensus situations or voting in direct primaries.

“Where we have more than one aspirant, Abuja would send officials to conduct primaries, while the state chapter will provide full support to ensure a smooth and credible exercise,” he said.

Adeyemo further assured that no aspirant would be unfairly treated, noting that the party would adhere strictly to democratic principles in line with its constitution.

The Chairman of the Screening Committee, Taofiq AbdusSalam, pledged that the committee would carry out its assignment diligently to ensure only qualified aspirants are cleared to contest under the party’s platform.

Similarly, the APC leadership in Oyo State equally reiterated its readiness to strengthen internal democracy as it prepares for a competitive 2027 election cycle.
