The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has alleged that hoodlums attacked his wife, Mrs. Tawakalitu Alli, and two other candidates of the party in separate incidents in Ibadan.
The other alleged victims are the APC Oyo South senatorial candidate, Remi Oseni, and the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Folake Olunloyo-Oshinlowo.
Alli disclosed the incidents in a statement signed by the Director of his campaign organisation, Bisi Oladele on Thursday.
According to the statement, his wife was allegedly attacked by hoodlums during a programme at Ibikunle Palace in Ibadan on Wednesday. The statement added that Oseni and Olunloyo-Oshinlowo were attacked at separate locations in the city on the same day.
Reacting to the incidents, Alli condemned the alleged attacks, describing them as unwarranted and barbaric. He called for measures to prevent further incidents of political violence in the state.
He said Governor Seyi Makinde, as the chief security officer of Oyo State, had a responsibility to protect all residents, irrespective of their political affiliations.
“As the chief security officer of the state, Governor Makinde carries the responsibility to protect all residents, irrespective of their political leanings,” he said.
The APC candidate called on security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible for the alleged attacks, stressing that the perpetrators should be brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to political violence in the state. The statement did not disclose the identities of the alleged attackers or indicate whether any arrests had been made.
