The Oyo State governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Bimbo Adekanbi, has pledged to support the transformation of Shooting Stars Sports Club into one of Nigeria’s leading football clubs if elected.

Adekanbi made the pledge while congratulating the Oluyole Warriors on their victory over Inter Lagos in the opening fixture of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

The APM candidate described the victory as an encouraging start to the campaign, saying it had renewed optimism among supporters of the historic Ibadan-based club.

According to him, Shooting Stars occupies an important place in the history and identity of Oyo State, with the club’s fortunes closely tied to the aspirations and emotions of its supporters.

Adekanbi stressed that a successful Shooting Stars would not only bring sporting glory to the state but also create opportunities for young people seeking to develop their talents and pursue careers in sports.

Furthermore, he described sports as a tool for promoting unity, community spirit and positive engagement among young people, adding that investment in the sector should extend beyond winning trophies to creating sustainable opportunities for talented youths.

He therefore pledged to build on the progress recorded by the club and support efforts to restore Shooting Stars to its place among Nigeria’s elite football sides, expressing confidence that the team could achieve greater success with adequate support and proper development.

Adekanbi also urged them to maintain their winning mentality throughout the season, while assuring the club and its supporters of his continued support.
