Oyo Assembly confirms appointment of new OYSIEC chairman, members

The Oyo State House of Assembly has formally confirmed the appointment of Dr. Babatunde Afeez Adeniyi as Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).

Also ratified as members of the commission are Chief Kunmi Agboola, Mr. Olanrewaju Adeoti Emmanuel, Mr. Sunday Olugbemiga Falana, Hon. Remi Ayoade, Mr. Olatunde Akintunde Theophilus, Mrs. Adebayo Muriana Adepeju, and Mr. Babatunde George Ige.

The confirmation took place during Tuesday’s plenary session, which was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, following the adoption of the report submitted by the House Committee on Special Duties. The committee chairman and Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi, stated that all nominees satisfactorily met the requirements during the screening conducted earlier that day.

Speaking to journalists following the confirmation, Dr. Adeniyi expressed his gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for the trust placed in him and his colleagues. He assured that the forthcoming local government elections in the state would be conducted in strict compliance with all relevant electoral laws.

Dr. Adeniyi also expressed appreciation to the Speaker, principal officers, and members of the Assembly for their approval of the appointments, noting that the commission would commence its duties promptly following its inauguration.

“We will uphold the integrity of the electoral process. The screening proceeded smoothly, and we are committed to delivering credible elections for the people of Oyo State,” he emphasized.
