Oyo Assembly seeks rehabilitation of local government secretariat buildings

By Adejayan Gbenga –
The Oyo State House of Assembly has urged the executive arm of government to commence the urgent rehabilitation of local government secretariat buildings across the state.
The resolution followed a motion presented by the member representing Lagelu State Constituency, Hon. Akintunde Olajide, during the House plenary session on Thursday.
Hon. Olajide expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of several council secretariats, noting that many of the buildings required immediate renovation to ensure a safe, productive, and conducive work environment for employees and visitors.
He emphasized that functional secretariat buildings are essential for efficient service delivery at the grassroots level and for boosting the morale of local government staff.
In a related development, the lawmaker representing Ibadan North I Constituency, Hon. Comforter Olajide, presented a motion seeking urgent state intervention in HIV/AIDS treatment, care, and support programmes. She noted that the intervention became necessary following the recent withdrawal of support by the Presidential Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
The Assembly also considered another motion appealing to the state government to include Ogo-Oluwa, Surulere, and Oriire Local Government Areas in the ongoing inner road rehabilitation projects within the Ogbomoso zone.
Contributing to the deliberations, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi, the Chief Whip, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, and other lawmakers supported the motions and urged the executive arm to give the requests prompt attention.
The House subsequently adjourned its sitting till next Thursday after adopting the motions and directing that copies be transmitted to the relevant ministries for necessary action.
