Oyo cyclists shine at 3rd Ibadan Cycling Competition

Oyo cyclists Ajibade Ibrahim and Akinola Destiny emerged as champions in the Under-18 and Under-15 male categories at the 3rd Ibadan Cycling Competition, held over the weekend in Ibadan.
In the Under-18 male division, Ajibade Ibrahim clinched first place in the 20km road race with a time of 34:21, followed by Wale Aina at 34:40 and Ikatt Victor at 35:11, taking second and third place respectively.
For the Under-18 female category, Ikatt Eunice secured first place, with Azeez Medinat and Olawale Peace coming in second and third. In the Under-15 female division, Obadara Adeola, Azeez Asanat, and Aminu Olamide captured the top three positions.
Akinola Destiny led the Under-15 male 16km road race, finishing in 30:32, followed closely by Arogundade Mujeeb at 30:65.
Younger cyclists also showcased their skills, with Adam Bello and Aminu Olamiposi winning the Under-10 male and female 10km races, while Hamzat Adam and Ajibade Fatia took top honors in the Under-5 male and female 5km races.
The competition attracted 120 cyclists from Oyo, Osun, Lagos, and Ogun states and was organized by Lapet Feats in collaboration with the Oyo State Cycling Association to foster and develop cycling talent across the South-West zone.
Event convener Adebayo Olawale expressed satisfaction with the competition’s success, stating, “I’m thrilled to see what we have achieved in promoting young cycling talents. The competition was fiercely contested, allowing participants to recognize their strengths and areas for improvement.”
Looking ahead, Olawale added, “In 2025, we aim to further strengthen talent discovery and development in Oyo State by building on our successes, addressing challenges, and expanding our initiatives.”
