The Oyo State Government has announced the deployment of over 2,000 security operatives to ensure a peaceful and well-coordinated coronation ceremony for Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who will be officially crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, disclosed this at a press briefing on Saturday at the Olubadan Palace. He said personnel from the Nigeria Police, NSCDC, DSS, Amotekun Corps, and OYRTMA would be stationed at strategic locations across the city.

“Their commitment to maintaining order is paramount,” Ojo said, assuring residents of a safe and seamless coronation period. He described the event as a historic cultural milestone for Ibadanland.

Oba Ladoja, a former governor and elder statesman, will be celebrated not only for his traditional role but also for his leadership qualities. “This coronation is a monumental celebration of Ibadan’s spirit, heritage, and the leadership that will guide our community into a promising future,” Ojo added.

The government, in partnership with the Olubadan-in-Council and key stakeholders, has lined up a week-long program of activities leading up to the ceremony. These events will include inter-religious prayers, a cultural fiesta, a coronation lecture, and a thanksgiving service.

Dignitaries expected at the ceremony include President Bola Tinubu, senior government officials, traditional rulers from Yorubaland and beyond, members of the diplomatic corps, captains of industry, and guests from across Nigeria and abroad.

Chief Bayo Oyero, Chairman of the Planning and Organising Committee, said the coronation reflects Ibadan’s rich and inclusive cultural heritage and reaffirmed that the succession process is orderly and democratic. He noted that Oba Ladoja’s background as a senator, engineer, businessman, and administrator positions him to lead Ibadanland into a new era of progress and prosperity.

Ojo also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support, noting that the timely release of funds and consistent backing were crucial to organising the coronation. He invited all Ibadan indigenes and Nigerians to join in celebrating this historic and culturally significant event.
