The Oyo State Government has approved a fresh wave of infrastructural projects as part of its continued drive to complete key developments before the end of Governor Seyi Makinde’s second term. Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed the decisions in a statement issued after the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday in Ibadan.
Oyelade affirmed that the administration remains committed to balanced growth across all six geopolitical zones, noting that the government has refused to slow down despite having only 17 months left in office. He emphasized that the new approvals reflect Makinde’s determination to sustain ongoing momentum in road construction, security upgrades and public service improvements.
A major highlight of the meeting was the approval of the 45.3-kilometre Saki–Ogboro–Igboho road at a cost of ₦18.14 billion, following extensive damage caused by July’s heavy rainfall. The council also included the Ogbooro–Agbonle road in the project list to support rural farmers and ease the transportation of produce across the Oke Ogun region.
The commissioner noted that Oke Ogun remains a priority area for the Makinde administration, citing previously completed works such as the Saki Township Dualization Road. He added that security architecture in the zone is being strengthened, with the Otu and Igbeti airstrips designated to receive two new state aircraft, while the MOPOL base has been moved to Ago Are to tackle banditry.
Other projects underway include the 30km Igboho–Kishi road, the 23km Okaka–Igbojaye road, and the Kunle Afolayan Production Film Village in Komu. Approval was also granted for the completion of the long-abandoned Kishi Fire Station at a cost of ₦141.86 million, aimed at boosting emergency response capacity.
Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal commended the administration for evenly distributing development projects across Oke Ogun, assuring residents that no major project initiated by the government would be abandoned before the end of the tenure. He said the government remains focused on delivery and continuity.
The council approved the dualization of Ariyo–Amuloko–Odeyale Junction for ₦15.12 billion, describing it as a key route connecting Oyo State to Ogun State through Dagbolu and offering an alternative corridor from the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) to Ijebu-Ode. Roads within Old and New Bodija will also undergo asphaltic rehabilitation for ₦16.2 billion.
In addition, a special intervention fund of ₦6.8 billion was earmarked for the Iwo Road–Olodo Bridge–Elesin Godogbo–Lalupon–Iyana Ofa road project, bringing the total cost to ₦14.54 billion, pending advanced payment guarantees from a reputable bank. Oyelade disclosed that the Makinde administration has spent over ₦1 trillion on infrastructure since 2019 while in the education sector, the council approved the procurement of 23,042 science equipment and materials for 99 public secondary schools at ₦107.7 million. The government also established the Project Facilitation Fund (PFF) to speed up project execution across MDAs and approved the Oyo State Medical Residency Training Bill 2025 for onward transmission to the House of Assembly.
