Oyo govt approves multi-billion naira projects across state

The Oyo State Executive Council, led by Acting Governor Barr. Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal, has approved a series of major infrastructural and developmental projects across the state.

The approvals, announced after Tuesday’s council meeting, cover road construction, sports development, and environmental initiatives, with a combined value running into several billions of naira.

Among the projects is the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the 13.6-kilometre Ojoo Interchange–IITA–Moniya Junction–Akinyele Interchange, with spurs to the New Oyo Expressway in Ibadan. The six-lane dual carriageway will cost ₦63.6 billion and is expected to be completed in 18 months.

The council also approved the 30-kilometre reconstruction of the Okaka Junction–Otu–Igbojaiye–KAP Film Village Road, including bridges across the Otu and Ofiki Rivers, at a cost of ₦26.4 billion, with an 18-month completion timeline.

Additionally, the 6.2-kilometre Ajia Junction (Ibadan–Ife Interchange)–Nigeria Air Force Base Road will be dualised for ₦17.1 billion, with completion scheduled within 12 months.

In Eruwa, the Isaba–Ogundoyin Road and the Lanlate Garage Junction–Local Government Junction–Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic–Oke Ola Junction Road, measuring 0.75 km and 1.9 km respectively, will be reconstructed at a cost of ₦4.1 billion over the next year. The council further approved the completion of the 12-kilometre Apete–Awotan–Akufo Road, with an extension to the 2.2-kilometre Akufo Farm Settlement Road, for ₦1.9 billion.

Within Ibadan metropolis, limited patching of selected roads, thermoplastic road marking, and kerb painting will be undertaken at a cost of ₦444.7 million. In the sports sector, ₦110 million was approved for camping and hosting of the under-20 female national football team ahead of their Women’s World Cup qualifying match against Rwanda in Ibadan.

Furthermore, ₦108 million was sanctioned for the planting of economic trees along the 32-kilometre South-East Wing of the 110-kilometre Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road.
