Oyo govt imposes curfew on 10 councils over security concerns

Oyo State governor Engr Seyi Makinde, has approved the declaration of a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of the state.
According to a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, the restriction takes effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The curfew will run daily from 4PM to 8AM and is expected to last for 48 hours in the first instance.
The directive affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park, following heightened security concerns in the region.
The affected councils are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.
The government said the measure is aimed at strengthening security surveillance and preventing possible threats within communities around the protected area.
Security agencies have been directed to enforce strict compliance with the curfew order across all affected local government areas.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with authorities as monitoring and enforcement operations are expected to intensify during the restricted hours.
