Oyo kidnapping: Adeleke orders revitalisation of Safe School Initiative in Osun
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the immediate revitalisation of the Safe School Initiative in Osun State following recent cases of school kidnappings in neighbouring Oyo State.
The directive, contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, is aimed at preventing any possible spillover of such incidents into Osun.
Adeleke instructed the ministry of education, alongside relevant security agencies, to urgently reactivate and strengthen the initiative across the state.
He also ordered enhanced intelligence gathering, particularly around schools located in border communities and remote areas of the state.
According to the statement, the Amotekun Corps was specifically directed to strengthen collaboration with non-governmental peace and security organisations currently supporting school protection efforts across the state.
The governor, while assuring parents and school authorities of the safety of pupils, directed his special adviser on security matters, Barrister Samuel Ojo, to coordinate the implementation of the renewed plan with security agency commanders.
“We are resolved to secure our pupils across our school system. Necessary steps are ongoing to improve security in schools, especially in rural areas. The existing safe school plan will be strengthened.
“The Commissioner For Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole, and the security adviser are to meet to finalise the revitalisation plan. I assure parents and school authorities of their safety and protection,” the governor said.
