The Oyo State Ministry of Youth and Sports has introduced the Utility Card, a groundbreaking contactless payment system designed to streamline fee collection at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The card is set to modernize how payments for services and events at the stadium are handled, marking a significant step towards digital transformation in West African sports facilities.
In a press release, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke, announced the launch, highlighting the state’s pioneering role in implementing such innovative solutions. “This is the first-ever contactless payment system in a West African stadium. It reflects Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to progress and technological advancement,” Adegoke stated.
The utility card will simplify transactions for stadium visitors, fans, and users, offering a cashless and hassle-free experience. According to Adegoke, the card will enhance efficiency, promote convenience, and improve overall service delivery at the stadium. It can be used for various services, including ticketing, parking, and concessions.
The card, priced at ₦500, can be recharged through multiple channels, such as bank apps, POS devices, and at the stadium itself. This provides users with flexibility and ensures seamless transactions during events.
“This initiative is part of the state’s broader agenda to modernize sports infrastructure and improve service delivery at all sporting facilities. The implementation will be phased, with regular updates provided to ensure smooth adoption,” Adegoke added. She also emphasized that the system would reduce the reliance on cash, minimize risks associated with cash handling, and increase financial transparency.
Encouraging public support for the rollout, Adegoke affirmed that the Utility Card represents another milestone in Governor Makinde’s efforts to enhance sports infrastructure and provide world-class services to the people of Oyo State.
