Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, representing Oyo North Senatorial District, has expressed delight over the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO), describing it as a historic achievement for the Oke-Ogun region.

The senator disclosed this after receiving the management team of the new university, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jacob Babayemi, who paid him a courtesy visit to express appreciation for his contributions to the institution’s creation.

In his remarks, Senator Abdulfatai said he was deeply moved by the visit and the management’s words of gratitude, noting that the project holds great importance for Oke-Ogun, a region that had long awaited a federal institution of higher learning.

He recalled that when he initiated the move to establish the university, some individuals dismissed his efforts and politicized the process, describing it as a “scam.” He said the successful take-off of FUNATO has now vindicated those who genuinely supported the project.

The lawmaker expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, for listening to the pleas of the people of Oke-Ogun and approving the establishment of the university.

Senator Abdulfatai also acknowledged the immense contributions of the Asiwaju of Okeho, Professor Segun Gbadegesin, and other notable sons and daughters of Oke-Ogun who played key roles in making the university a reality.

He urged the management of FUNATO to focus on building an institution that would be recognized for academic excellence and integrity, assuring them of his continued support and collaboration.

The senator reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Oyo North, emphasizing that every effort he makes as a lawmaker is aimed at promoting development and protecting the interests of his constituents.
