Oyo NLC makes case for labour’s involvement in decision making

Chairman, Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kayode Martins, has stressed the need for government to involve labour in decision making, so that the union can contribute meaningfully to the development of civil servants and the nation.
Martins stated this at a press conference in commemoration of the 2022 May Day celebration in Ibadan.
Speaking on the theme; “Labour, Politics and the Quest for Good Governance and Development in Nigeria”, Martins said it was targeted towards creating workers’ awareness on the need to be involved in decision making and national development.
According to him, Nigerian workers have not been fully carried along in decision making in the country, but are affected by the major policies made by those at the helms of affairs.
He said labour will now buckle up and tell government to involve them in any decision to be made in order to make things right.
He said the average Nigerian worker has suffered enough, adding that it is the workers, who have the most structured and one of the most organized movement in the country.
He urged workers in the state to cooperate with the NLC and discharge their roles well in order to move forward the labour movement.
Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Emmanuel Ogundiran, who also spoke at the event, charged government to take issues and wellbeing of workers with utmost concern in order not to subject them to unnecessary sufferings.
He said the labour movement in Nigeria has taken the back seat despite the fact that a party was formed in the name of workers.
