Oyo NSCDC boss emphasises intelligence gathering as bedrock of security

The Oyo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Augustine Padonu has emphasized that intelligence is the bedrock of security, and without it, efforts to tackle criminal activities and safeguard lives and property may be undermined.
Padonu stated this at a one-day capacity-building program organized by the Intelligence and Investigation Department of the NSCDC, Oyo State Command, for all Intelligence Officers.
The training, held at the Area “A” Command Headquarters in Ibadan, focused on the theme: “The Place of Intelligence in the Emerging Security Challenges in Nigeria.”
The Oyo NSCDC boss, in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SC Samuel Olubanjo Opebiyi emphasized the critical role intelligence gathering plays in proactive security operations.

He noted that Nigeria’s security landscape is constantly evolving, requiring officers to be well-equipped with modern intelligence techniques to combat threats effectively.
According to him, “Intelligence is the bedrock of security. Without accurate, timely, and actionable intelligence, our efforts in tackling criminal activities and safeguarding lives and property may be undermined. This training is designed to enhance the analytical and operational capabilities of our Intelligence Officers to address the dynamic security challenges facing our nation.”
The capacity-building program featured in-depth lectures, practical sessions, and case studies aimed at improving intelligence gathering, analysis, and dissemination.
Experts in the field provided insights into contemporary security threats, including terrorism, cybercrime, banditry, and other forms of organized crime, stressing the need for synergy among security agencies to achieve national security objectives.
The statement said, the NSCDC Oyo State Command remains dedicated to strengthening its intelligence framework and ensuring a safer and more secure environment for Oyo State residents.
