Oyo PDP Chieftain, Adebisi Olopoeeyan, POJ, Others Defect To NNPP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain in Oyo State, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeeyan has officially defected to New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Ibadan.
Olopoeeyan in an open declaration on Monday in Ibadan along side governorship aspirant of the party, Engr. Popoola Olukayode Joshua (POJ) said the development became necessary in order for him and other members to chat new course for their political activities.
He told the people that he quits the PDP following internal problems rocking the party as well as high handedness of the incumbent governor of the state, Engr Seyi Makinde.
With the development, Alhaji Olopoeeyan is now South West Leader of the new party. He has publicly signed and obtained card of the party.
Alhaji Olopoeeyan had on Wednesday March 30, 2022 turned in his resignation from the PDP in a letter addressed to Senator Iyorchia Ayu National Chairman of the party.
According to him, the PDP in the state started with 35 people and later they brought in Engr. Seyi Makinde to vie for office of the governor in 2019.
“But today, he has destroyed PDP with his high handedness and selfish leadership style in the state. There is serious division and cracks in the party as I am talking to you.”
Continuing, he said, “Governor Makinde is an ingrate, I cannot continue in such party where they is division and where the governor’s high handedness has caused so much cracks.
“I have full history of how governor Makinde emerged governor in the state, I am instrumental to his enthronement as governor, but unfortunately, he has destroyed the party. The PDP is broken and will be defeated in the next election.
Olopoeeyan admonished members of the new party to cooperate and be united in order to clinch victory in the 2023 general elections.
In his speech, the governorship aspirant for NNPP, Engr Popoola Olukayode Joshua fondly addressed as (POJ) described the move as right step in the right direction, describing Alhaji Olopoeeyan as a leader who worth the salt in politics of the nation.
National Secretary of the party, Hon. Dipo Olayokun in an interview with newsmen said formal declaration of PDP Chieftain into NNPP informed the programmed. He described it as a welcome development.
He denied reports that NNPP has plans to merge with some political parties in the country ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The programme was witnessed by officials of the party from the zonal headquarters.
Meanwhile, Some officers including chairman of the party in the state, Mr. Adesesan Adegbola were officially announced at the occasion.
