Oyo police arrest suspect with human flesh, recover abandoned vehicle

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested one Alfa Basiru for allegedly being in possession of suspected human flesh. The police also recovered an abandoned vehicle during stop-and-search operations in Ibadan.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command described the operations—conducted across highways, intersections, and adjoining roads—as vital to deterring crime and protecting lives.

According to the statement shared on the Command’s official X handle, a Federal Highway Patrol team intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG along the Toll Gate axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway at about 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. One occupant, identified as Alfa Basiru, was arrested after suspected human flesh was found in his possession.

“The suspect claimed to have purchased the substance in Lagos. He has since been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further interrogation,” the statement read.

The police added that the suspected item has been sent for forensic analysis to confirm its authenticity and origin.

In a separate incident, officers flagged down a Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX during a routine search. The driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
