Security operatives in Oyo State have arrested a pastor over his alleged involvement in providing logistical support to armed groups responsible for the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
According to security sources, the cleric is suspected of supplying weapons, ammunition, vehicles, drugs and other operational materials to the kidnappers.
The arrest was made as part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to rescue the abducted victims and dismantle the criminal network believed to be behind the attack.
Authorities believe the suspect’s arrest could provide useful intelligence that would assist security operatives in locating the victims and identifying other members of the kidnapping syndicate.
Security officials, however, said the suspect’s identity and the name of his church would not be disclosed for now to avoid compromising ongoing investigations and rescue operations.
They maintained that further information would be made available at the appropriate time when it would no longer affect the operation. The arrest comes as security agencies intensify efforts to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers while tracking other individuals suspected of providing support to the kidnappers.
Authorities have assured residents that all available resources are being deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and bring everyone found to be connected with the crime to justice.
Security agencies have urged members of the public to remain calm and continue providing useful information that could assist ongoing investigations and rescue operations.
