PDP BoT moves to reconcile aggrieved members ahead of 2027 elections

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun moves to reconcile aggrieved members and resolve internal disputes as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The decision followed an expanded emergency meeting of the board held between March 10 and 11 in Abuja to deliberate on the party’s lingering leadership crisis and its implications for the PDP’s future as a major opposition platform.

Speaking after the meeting, BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara said the board considered the recent Court of Appeal ruling that nullified the party’s November 2025 national convention, where Kabiru Tanimu Turaki emerged as chairman of the National Working Committee.

While expressing reservations over the judgment, the trustees said they would seek legal guidance before determining the party’s next line of action regarding the ruling.

The board also expressed concern about the ongoing internal conflicts and court cases within the party, noting that the disputes have continued to undermine unity and weaken the PDP’s organisational strength.

Despite the legal setback, the BoT said it would take advantage of the reconciliation option suggested by the court to restore peace and cohesion among party leaders and members.

“The board is determined to take urgent steps to bring all stakeholders together, resolve the disagreements within the party and strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections,” the communiqué stated.

To facilitate the process, the trustees approved the formation of a special committee that will engage with legal advisers and key party stakeholders to promote dialogue and rebuild trust.
