PDP hit by fresh blow as Ologbondiyan dumps party ahead of 2027 elections

A former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has formally resigned from the party.

Ologbondiyan announced his exit in a statement posted on X on Saturday, alongside a letter dated December 5, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of Okekoko Ward (09) in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

In the letter titled “Notification of Membership Withdrawal”, he stated that after carefully reviewing his involvement in the PDP, he had decided it was time to leave.

“It is now imperative to bring to your attention the fact that I have reviewed my participation in the PDP and come to the conclusion that, for personal reasons, I need to make my exit. I have therefore taken the decision to formally withdraw my membership of the PDP henceforth,” the letter read.

Ologbondiyan also expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership for the opportunity to serve.

“Let me start by thanking you, as well as other levels of leadership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for the opportunities provided for me to serve the party and our fatherland, Nigeria,” he said.

His resignation adds to the growing wave of high-profile departures that have hit the PDP in 2025—one of the most turbulent years for the opposition party since its creation.

A series of internal crises, leadership disputes, and strategic realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections have continued to trigger defections at national, state, and legislative levels.
