PDP NEC expels Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal over alleged anti-party activities

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ratified the expulsion of the governors of Oyo, Bauchi, and Zamfara States — Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, and Dauda Lawal — along with former Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara; Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki; Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja; and several others for alleged anti-party activities.

The NEC also approved the dissolution of the State Executive Councils in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo, and Ekiti States. These decisions were reached at the 103rd NEC meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, who presented the memo recommending the expulsions, said the affected individuals disregarded subsisting court judgements, conduct he described as bringing the party into disrepute.

In a communiqué read by the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, NEC expressed concern over the actions of members who violated court orders by organising and attending an unauthorised convention, leading to confusion, factionalisation, and the defection of governors and lawmakers.

The committee approved the commencement of disciplinary procedures against several prominent figures, including Adolphus Wabara, Olabode George, Ben Obi, Kabiru Turaki, Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Udom Emmanuel, and others. It also directed Chief Ali Odefa to refund salaries and allowances collected after his earlier expulsion.

NEC ratified Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck as Acting National Vice Chairman (South-East) and directed the National Working Committee to set up caretaker committees in the affected states, while affirming the Edo State Executive led by Barrister Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor.

It further instructed deputies of expelled members of the National Working Committee to assume substantive roles in acting capacities and ratified the appointment of Alhaji Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman. The committee also mandated the party’s legal team to initiate constitutional action to recover the seats of all elected officials who have defected from the PDP.

In their opening remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, and the Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman, urged party members to remain steadfast, expressing confidence that the PDP would overcome its current challenges.
