Peter Obi is a pathological liar with “self-serving narratives” – Onanuga

The Presidency has dismissed allegations by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi that he is being targeted by the Federal Government, with presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga describing him as a “pathological and serial liar” who promotes “self-serving narratives.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Onanuga rejected Obi’s claims that government agents were behind an incident involving his vehicle at an airport and that he feared for his safety ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to the presidential aide, Obi’s account of the airport incident was misleading and, by his own admission, stemmed from a violation of parking regulations.
“As a pathological and serial liar, Mr Obi is intent on dragging the government into every personal inconvenience he encounters, often resorting to exaggeration and baseless allegations,” Onanuga said.
He also dismissed Obi’s claim that he might not be alive to participate in the January 2027 election and his allegation that people were being discouraged from inviting him to social events.
“His claim that he may not be alive for the January 2027 election and that people are being pressured not to invite him to social events is nothing more than a fabricated narrative… designed to attract undue sympathy and deflect attention from his credibility deficit,” Onanuga stated.
The presidential spokesman further denied allegations that the government was targeting Fidelity Bank Plc, noting that Obi has a substantial interest in the financial institution.
He maintained that the bank continued to perform strongly under the current administration’s economic reforms and insisted there was no government campaign against it.
“The government is certainly not targeting the bank. Rather than being ‘haunted’ by the government, Mr Obi appears to be grappling with the consequences of his litany of unfounded statements,” he said.
