Peter Obi pays courtesy visit to Olubadan-designate, Oba Ladoja

In a move underscoring his commitment to national unity and traditional leadership, the former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Sunday visited the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at his private residence in Bodija, Ibadan.

The visit comes just days ahead of Ladoja’s coronation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, scheduled for September 26.

According to Obi, his visit was to congratulate Ladoja.

“My visit is about Nigeria, about selfless leadership, leadership that is committed to turning our society around.

“Ladoja will bring his wealth of experience to bear as Olubadan,” he said.

Obi known for his grassroots engagement and advocacy for good governance, was warmly received by the traditional ruler, highlighting the intersection of modern politics and cultural heritage in Nigeria’s evolving landscape.

Obi’s political journey has positioned him as a symbol of hope for many Nigerians disillusioned with the status quo. Rising from a successful business background to govern Anambra State from 2006 to 2014, Obi emphasised fiscal prudence, infrastructure development, and education reform during his tenure.

His 2023 presidential bid under the Labour Party banner galvanised a youth-led “Obidient” movement, focusing on issues like economic revitalisation, security, and anti-corruption. Since the election, Obi has continued to engage in public discourse, critiquing government policies while fostering alliances across ethnic and regional lines.

This visit to Ibadan aligns with his pattern of paying homage to traditional institutions, as seen in previous interactions with figures like the Ooni of Ife and other monarchs, reinforcing his belief in the role of cultural leaders in nation-building.
