A member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Hon. James Faleke, has paid a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, at his residence in Abuja.
Faleke disclosed this in a post shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, where he expressed gratitude for the warm reception and the elder statesman’s kind words during the visit.
He wrote: “I had the privilege of visiting one of Nigeria’s most dignified leaders, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, at his residence in Abuja today.
“Thank you for the warm reception, and most especially for your kind words.
May Nigeria continue to succeed. Amen.”
Gen. Yakubu Gowon served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1966 to 1975, a period that included the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970) and the post-war reconciliation and reconstruction efforts. He is widely remembered for his “no victor, no vanquished” stance after the war, which helped shape the country’s reconciliation process.
