Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu led government officials in the state on Friday to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The event was organised by the State Ministry of Women’s Affairs at Onikan Stadium.

Governor Sanwo-Olu took to his social media handles to share pictures of the celebration and promised to work for strong economic and social opportunities for women in the state.
He wrote:
“Today, at the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, I reassured the women of Lagos State that our administration will continue to empower them through intentional actions and policies that ensure they are seen and heard.

“Our commitment to fostering inclusiveness and achieving gender equality for the progress and development of Lagos State, which is in line with our THEMES+ agenda, is unwavering.
“This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” calls on us to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive steps toward gender equality and women’s empowerment. We must address the inequalities and barriers that still hinder women.

“Here in Lagos State, we don’t just say it; we are actively implementing it through policies that empower women across all sectors.
“Our programs demonstrate our commitment to creating an inclusive environment where women are genuinely empowered. We have invested in initiatives that foster self-sufficiency, leadership, and economic participation.

“True progress requires collective action, and I encourage all men to join the movement for gender equality. Sustainable change can only happen when men and women work together in harmony.

“We remain committed to empowering women through deliberate action, fostering inclusiveness, and addressing gender inequalities, all aimed at achieving sustainable development in Lagos State.”
