PHOTO NEWS: NCAA sensitizes Abuja air travellers on first need compensation rights

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Friday carried out a sensitization exercise at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to educate air travellers on their rights to First Need Compensation as provided under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations.

The campaign was led by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, who was accompanied by his team. The outreach is part of NCAA’s renewed commitment to ensuring that passengers are aware of their rights and that airlines are held accountable to consumer protection standards.

During the exercise, NCAA officials engaged directly with travellers, answering questions and distributing flyers that outlined the conditions under which passengers are entitled to compensation in cases of flight delays, cancellations, and denied boarding.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Achimugu explained that First Need Compensation refers to the immediate assistance an airline must provide to affected passengers — such as meals, hotel accommodation, and transportation — depending on the length and nature of the disruption.

He noted that the sensitization drive would be extended to other airports across the country to deepen awareness and promote a culture of responsibility within the aviation industry.
