PHOTO NEWS: NSC hails success of AKO 10 MMA event in Abuja

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has celebrated the success of AKO 10, Africa’s premier Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event, which took place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja.
The event, described as a milestone for combat sports on the continent, brought together athletes from across Africa and attracted fans from around the world.

In a statement, the NSC expressed appreciation to the Minister of Finance, Chief Wale Edun, whose presence at the championship was seen as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to sports as a tool for unity and economic development.
The Commission also paid tribute to AKO President and UFC Champion, Kamaru “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman, for his leadership and vision in promoting African MMA. It noted that his collaboration with the NSC and other stakeholders was instrumental in delivering a world-class event in Nigeria.

According to the NSC, the success of AKO 10 marks “a proud moment for Nigeria” and represents a significant step forward in advancing its RHINSE agenda for sports development.
