President Tinubu mourns former IGP Solomon Arase

By Kunle Sanni –
President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon Ehigiator Arase, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 69.
In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Arase as a “highly resourceful officer whose reforms brought lasting changes to the Nigeria Police Force.”
Tinubu highlighted Arase’s contributions to strengthening national security through initiatives such as the Intelligence Response Team, the Complaint Response Unit, and the Safer Highway Patrols. He also recalled Arase’s distinguished career, which spanned tactical, operational, and intelligence commands, as well as service in United Nations peacekeeping operations in Namibia.
“Arase served the police force meritoriously from 1981 to 2016, rising through the ranks to become the 18th indigenous IGP and later Chairman of the Police Service Commission,” Tinubu said, noting that his expertise continued to benefit the country even after retirement through various public service and consultancy roles.
The President prayed for the peaceful repose of Arase’s soul and extended condolences to his family, the Nigeria Police Force, and all who worked with him.
