Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, Wife of Lagos State Governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, former Ekiti State First Lady, Bisi Fayemi, former World Bank Vice President, Obi Ezekwesili were among Nigerian women, who joined group of female Ambassadors to Nigeria to celebrate International Women’s Day with a gala and award night at the residence of United States Consul-General in Lagos.
The Conveners of the night were Ms. Leann Johnston CDA Australian High Commission, H.E. Amb Samuela Isopi, Head, European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, H.E Annett Günther (Germany), H.E. Mary Beth Leonard (USA), H.E. Pascaline Gerengbo (Congo), H.E. Emmanuelle Blatmann (France), H.E. High Comm. Catriona Laing CB (UK), Ms Beatrice Eyong (UN Women Rep to Nigeria and ECOWAS) and Resident Representative to UNDP in Nigeria, Mr Mohammed Yahya.
Awards in various categories were given to women excelling in various sectors.
Of particular significance was the lifetime achievement award given to H.E. Dame Pauline Tallen, the Minister of Women Affairs for her outstanding contributions to the advancement of women in Nigeria. The outstanding Leader Award went to Dr Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi. The keynote Speaker was Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili.
