PHOTO NEWS: Swiss government returns 28 artefacts to National Museum in Lagos

The Swiss government has returned 28 artefacts to Nigeria after months of diplomatic engagements.
At a ceremony held at the National Museum in Lagos, the Swiss government’s delegation, led by Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, formally handed over the artefacts to Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa.

Taking to her social media pages to announce the return of the artefacts, Musawa wrote:
“The return of our cultural heritage marks more than the recovery of artefacts. It reflects the power of dialogue, trust, and international cooperation.

“Earlier today, alongside the Director General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (@ncmmhq), Olugbile Holloway (@gbileholloway), I welcomed Her Excellency Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (@elisabeth.baumeschneider), Swiss Federal Councillor, and her delegation to the National Museum, Lagos.
“The official ceremony for the transfer of 28 cultural artefacts and the signing of the Nigeria-Switzerland Bilateral Agreement on the Import, Export and Repatriation of Cultural Property signifies the start of a sustainable and effective partnership between both countries on cultural cooperation.”
