PHOTO NEWS: Tinubu, Lula da Silva sign agreement to enhance trade, technology, agriculture

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil have signed a series of landmark agreements aimed at deepening bilateral relations, enhancing trade, and promoting technological collaboration between the two nations.

The agreements, signed in Brasília, cover diplomacy, aviation, science and technology, and agricultural financing.

In the area of diplomatic cooperation, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, and Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mauro Vieira, signed an agreement on diplomatic training, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on political consultations. The pact is designed to strengthen engagements on bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual concern.

On aviation, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, signed a Bilateral Air Services Agreement. The deal is expected to boost trade, improve air connectivity, and enhance people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

In science, innovation, and technology, Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, and Brazil’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Luciana Santos, signed an MoU to advance cooperation in biotechnology, bioeconomy, ocean science, energy, space development, digital transformation, and raw materials research.

In addition, an MoU to promote trade and agricultural investment was signed between the Managing Director of Nigeria’s Bank of Agriculture, Ayo Soterin, and the President of Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), Aluísio Mercadante. The agreement is expected to expand agricultural financing and support joint investment projects.

President Tinubu described the agreements as a significant step forward in building a stronger partnership between Africa’s largest economy and South America’s leading industrial powerhouse.

“These accords mark a new era of cooperation that will open doors for shared prosperity and innovation,” he said.
