President Bola Tinubu received the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Diocese, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, during an audience at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.
The meeting comes amid renewed allegations of religious persecution in Nigeria, following comments by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently accused the Nigerian government of failing to protect Christians and described the situation as “a genocide against believers.”
In response, Nigerian officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, have strongly rejected the claims, insisting that such allegations are “impossible” under Nigeria’s constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion and forbids any form of state-backed discrimination.
