PHOTOS: Shettima departs Abuja for Ethiopia to represent Tinubu at 2026 AU Summit

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2026 African Union (AU) Summit.

The summit, themed “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” will centre on strengthening sustainable water management and sanitation systems across the continent, in line with the AU’s long-term development blueprint, Agenda 2063.

According to a statement by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima is expected to join other African leaders at the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of AU Heads of State and Government, as well as the 30th General Assembly, scheduled for February 14 and 15, 2026.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Vice President will participate in high-level side events and hold bilateral meetings with political and business leaders. The engagements are aimed at deepening Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic and strategic partnerships within Africa.

He is accompanied by cabinet ministers and senior government officials and is expected back in Nigeria at the conclusion of the summit.
