Tinubu hails BOI’s N636bn disbursement to businesses in 2025

President Bola Tinubu has praised the Bank of Industry (BOI) for disbursing N636 billion to businesses in 2025, describing it as the highest annual financing volume in the bank’s history and a validation of his administration’s economic reform agenda.

The funding, which reached more than 7,000 enterprises nationwide, was channelled into key sectors of the economy. Agro-allied enterprises received N202 billion, while N100 billion went to critical infrastructure projects spanning broadband, power, aviation and transportation. Manufacturing firms accessed N79 billion, extractive industries N77 billion, and the services sector N55 billion.

An additional N73 billion was deployed as managed and matching funds on behalf of state governments and institutional partners.

President Tinubu in a statement on Thursday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said the disbursement reflects improved access to long-term capital despite global financial constraints. According to him, the financing has boosted agro-processing, strengthened manufacturing output, supported infrastructure delivery and empowered thousands of businesses across the country.

A breakdown by business size shows that large enterprises accounted for N375 billion of the total disbursement. Small and medium enterprises received N178 billion, while nano enterprises accessed N51 billion and micro businesses N32 billion, reflecting what officials described as an inclusion-focused lending strategy.

Under the Federal Government’s N200 billion MSME intervention programme, BOI reportedly achieved over 95 per cent performance as the disbursing institution. The Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme reached 957,400 beneficiaries in 2025.

The bank’s activities led to the creation and retention of about 1.6 million jobs, supporting more than 7,000 MSMEs and 570 startups during the year.

Targeted financing initiatives also recorded significant participation. Women-owned enterprises benefited from a N10 billion Guaranteed Loans for Women Programme, which provides up to N50 million per beneficiary. Youth-owned businesses accessed N12 billion in financing. Through the Rural Area Programme on Investment for Development, 880 rural enterprises across the 36 states and the FCT received over N6.5 billion.
