Plateau community attack claims 12 lives, police confirm mass burial

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that 12 people were killed in the early hours of Friday following a gunmen attack on Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Police spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, confirmed the incident to TheCable, adding that the victims had already been buried in a mass grave.

“From the information we received, 12 people were killed in the attack and the victims had already been buried this morning,” Alfred said.

Reports indicated that the assailants stormed the community around midnight while residents were asleep, with about 13 people affected in total, including three pregnant women.

A community member, Philip Alanga, said the attackers fired sporadically, forcing residents to flee their homes in panic as the assault lasted.

The Secretary-General of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Danjuma Auta, described the incident as part of recurring attacks on communities in Bassa LGA and other parts of the state, calling for urgent security intervention.

He urged security agencies to track down those responsible and ensure justice is served, warning that continued attacks were deepening fear and instability in affected communities.
