Police arrest four suspects over attack on officers in Osun community

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the attack on its officers in Ilobu community, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, the arrests followed a viral video showing police personnel being assaulted by hoodlums during an operation in the area.

The police explained that the officers had been deployed after intelligence indicated that peace in the Erin-Osun/Ilobu communities was under threat due to a disputed boundary issue.

According to Ojelabi, the officers arrived at the scene and dispersed the hoodlums. However, some youths from Ilobu community went wild and attacked the police officers, dragging one of them to the Olobu palace, where he was further subjected to inhumane treatment.

Meanwhile, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, has deployed an intervention team to the area, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other identified suspects.

The command added that culprits involved would be made to face the full wrath of the law, describing the act as unlawful and a direct attack on constituted authority.
