The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists and recovered weapons, charms and other incriminating items during a raid in Akoko communities of the state.
The suspects were apprehended in a coordinated operation carried out by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Akungba and Iwaro Akoko following intelligence reports on alleged cult-related activities in the area.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the operation was conducted in the early hours of June 16, leading to the arrest of Damilare Kayode, Adejoro Godwin, Adedapo Ogunro, Chisom Okechukwu, Ademulegun Imisi and Odugunle Bukola.

According to the police, preliminary investigations linked the suspects to unlawful confraternities believed to be operating within the Akoko axis.
“A thorough search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of five battle axes, one jackknife, various criminal charms and confraternity items including boots, yellow singlets and face caps,” the statement read.
The police added that the recovered exhibits had been taken into custody and would form part of ongoing investigations, while the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the probe.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Felix Ohagwu, described the recovery as a major operational success and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the state.
“Ohagwu commended the professionalism of the operatives and assured residents that the command would intensify intelligence-led policing, strategic raids and visibility patrols. He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support security efforts,” the statement added.
