Police parade man who killed Imam but claims he shot antelope

Osun State Police Command has arrested a man who allegedly killed a 78-year-old Imam of Alaguntan village, Adegun Yusuf at Orile-Owu in Ayedaade Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, Suleiman Jimoh (28), who is also a resident of the village while being paraded alongside other suspects at the Police Command Headquarters, Osogbo on Tuesday, however, said he shot at an antelope who later turned out to be the deceased.

Addressing journalists, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Yemisi Opalola said the suspect was arrested and he confessed to the alleged crime.

“The suspect was arrested and confessed to the alleged crime that he was on hunting expedition when he saw an antelope in the bush which he shot with his dane gun, but was surprised when he went to pick the antelope only to meet Baba on the ground,” Opalola said.

She said the suspect will be charged to court after the completion of police investigation.

Also paraded were Olayade Kehinde (25) and Raimi Sheriff (21) for suspected ritual killing.

According to Opalola, on 7th April, 2022 along Osogbo/OAU Ife Campus Road, Police detectives on ‘stop and search’ duty accosted three men on motorcycle. They were flagged down, but rather than stop, sped off and were pursued. 

“They were eventually arrested at Safejo area in Ile-Ife and while searching, human heart, which they claimed was one of their friend’s and various charms were found on them.

“Meanwhile, as discreet investigation is still ongoing, one of the suspects named Olufemi Oriyomi fell sick and was taken to hospital for treatment but unfortunately, he died while on admission and the corpse has been deposited at the state hospital for autopsy.

“Equally, a police officer also died in the course of investigating this case,” she added.
